Stack effect is nothing but free flow air into the building and it releases out the warm air at the top of the roof is known as chimney or stack effect.

Warm air is lighter than the cold air, so warm air leaks out from the roof where the cold air stays inside the house.

The house always experience three losses

1 = transmission - occurs in walls, floors & roof

2 = ventilation - air enter through window

3 = infiltration - air leakage
