A light shelf is a horizontal surface that reflects daylight deep into a building.

Light shelves are placed above eye-level and have high-reflectance upper surfaces, which reflect daylight onto the ceiling and deeper into space.

Pros :

+ Reduce the need for artificial lighting in buildings.

+ They can reflect light deeper into space.

+ Use of incandescent and fluorescent lighting can be reduced or completely eliminated, depending on the space.

Cons :

+ Best-suited to mild rather than tropical or desert climates.

+ Interfere with the installation of sprinkler systems.

+ Require a higher floor-to-ceiling height.
